Mission: Butterfly

A novel by Steve Krizman: Coming early 2027

The ones we’ve been waiting for are already among us.

A hopeful climate novel for readers who recycle, march, and buy local, but lie awake wondering if any of it counts. Three time travelers try to fix the 1960s and discover that history turns on the people no one was watching.

In 2039, three young people abandon their futures to change the past. They cross back into the 1960s to nudge the world off its path to oligarchy and climate catastrophe. Their rule: No big moves; only butterfly breaths.

Helene is certain patriarchy lit the fuse. Hiêu is certain it was empire. Zack is certain it was the oligarchs. Each has a target, a plan, and the righteous certainty of someone who’s already read how history ends.

But it all goes wrong.

The good ol’ boys are more ruthless than Helene expected. Hiêu is foiled by an American spy. Zack’s hero turns out to be only a man. The ones who must bend history are young women who were in no one’s history books: Waylene, Nguyet, and Annie.

For readers of The Overtstory and The Ministry for the Future.
